Chem 122- Today we will team up and in our groups put the answers to #14 on chart paper. This will be displayed on the wall. I hope to show part of a video that shows some of the reactions. I will also mentioned that there is a worksheet that helps you practise reactions( little sheet # 8 .) I will also show the answers to p 322 #20 that had esterification reactions. If there is extra time we will work on group naming. TEST Ch 9-Dec 4(worth 2 tests) Chem 121-If everyone remembers to bring in samples we will use the pH meter to find some pH's of common substances. We will also do group work on 71/72. Chem 112 P4-We will do our quiz on gravimetric stoichiometry. We will then do an in class pair assignment on mol/mol stoichiometry. This weekend you will have an assignment on The Solvay Process. You will be required to make an information pamphlet on the Solvay process using the handout first to research it and then present the information in a colorful phamplet.

This weekend you will have an at home calculation assignment that requires you to use calculation examples of concentration and figure out other questions. (please note that the answers are actually given for you to check them out. ) You just have to show all of the work and make sure your answer is correct. This should be done neatly on looseleaf. Do not forget your units.
Nov 29 Chem 122-Today we did a homework check on sheet 14 and I went over some notes on reactions. I reassigned # 14 from the text as several people had difficulties with it. There are also some excellent practise questions at the end of the chapter.
We went over the answers for several of the questions on the sanford study sheet.

Chem 121-Today we are dealing with weak acids and percent ionization. We will calculate the difference in pH between strong and weak acids. p 504-505 The calculation questions for % ionization are on p 508. I will assign #28 to #30. The handout that was started yesterday will be completed today (Questions 7,8,10,11 & 12). I will assign a small project on Canadian Nobel Prize Winners. This will be due on Monday Dec 3. Chem 122-We did a homework check on the last 3 days work. I went over #20, #18b, 19b and #15b. We worked in groups practising naming, drawing structures and reactions during the last two thirds of the class. A reminder that sheet 4 was assigned previously for thursday.I hope you are studying and memorizing each night because we are about to deal with reactions. This requires a good knowledge and study of all of the families. TEST Ch 9-Dec 4(worth 2 tests)
Chem 121-We are doing another worksheet on pH, POH, H+ and OH- calculations, as well as getting notes on a problem involving strong acids and bases. p 500-510
For homework the following questions should be done p 501 #23, #24, #(please note that #24 gives a unusual answer). Finish 1-3(top left of handout.) and 2,4,6 from handout(top right). There is one group who has still not completed theri labs. Please come in and finish them today.

Chem 122-We completed the last two families; the amines and the amides. I then assigned #20 from the textbook.
Everyone completed the Sanford Study Sheet( 7 and 8). I passed out a handout and assigned sheet 2 and 3 for friday. Sheet 4 was assigned for thursday. ( Please note that you have already been assigned #15(yesterday) and to omit#16. So do #14 on p 313) I hope you are studying and memorizing each night because we are about to deal with reactions. Chem 122-Today we finished carboxylic acids and went over the ester family. On the Sanford Organic Study Sheet, I assigned to the end of #6 to be finished. Time was given in class to copy the Summary of Reactions into Your Notebooks from page 321, ane to do the following textbook questions: p 322 #21 ( the diagram at the bottom of p 318 is useful for this and the link at the left side of this page includes another example as a word document.) p 316 #18 and #19, p 314 #15. I also returned the quizzes from friday.
-->There will be an email going out that includes labs and the midterm mark. There are two groups who are incomplete for their lab mark because, they have not finished their paperwork. They will come in a noonhour today.
Chem 121-We are doing water equilibrium today(p 496 to 498). Pay close attention to the formulas on p 497. I assigned #18 to #21 on p 499.
Once again, we watched the final short equilibrium video on The Haber Process.
